We were excited to hear from Lesli, a friend of a former client of ours from Morristown, TN. It’s a beautiful area and we loved learning about this sweet couple. Grant got to meet up with them in Knoxville at the Botanical Gardens and had a great time with them during their engagement pictures!
I loved reading their story, and love how beautiful the proposal was…we hope you enjoy Lesli and Blake…
How did you meet?
Blake and I were friends in high school. We went to different colleges, but we ran into each other at his roomate’s birthday party, who happened to be one of my good friends from childhood. We started dating soon after that, and have been dating for the past 6 years.
Anything special you’d like to share about dating?
Given the busy nature of our careers (I am an auditor and travel a lot for work, Blake has been in medical school and is now starting residency), we like to relax, cook, visit with friends and family, and go hiking with our dog Willa in our free time. We don’t have many official “dates,” but enjoy spending most of our free time together.
Describe your proposal.
Blake knows that my favorite time of year is Christmas. He took me to dinner on the 23rd of December, and then took me for chocolates and coffee downtown. Anyone who knows me, knows that chocolate is the way to my heart. As we were walking back to the car (after midnight, making it Christmas Eve), we went through a park full of trees sparkling with Christmas lights, and he asked me to marry him.
What is your ring like?
My ring has a round diamond with a vintage-style Tacori band. Blake wanted something that looks both old and sophisticated. I think he did a great job!
How would you describe the way you feel about each other?
I think the best word to describe our relationship is “honest.” We feel that communication is the key to a good relationship, and encourage each other to be honest about how we feel about everything, from how many kids we want to have, to what we feel like eating for dinner. It has helped keep our relationship strong through any tough times we’ve had, especially while living in different states for awhile!
Do you have any special plans for your wedding that you’d like to share?
Our wedding is going to be outside overlooking the lake in the town where we both grew up. We chose to have the wedding in autumn because the changing colors of the leaves makes autumn one of our favorite seasons.
