NaKisha & Miles’ Engagement

We had a really special evening photographing NaKisha and Miles. We met up with this couple at Panera and then headed out to downtown Ringgold which offered both pretty nature features and well as some neat buildings. We sat and talked and laughed together and then had a great time with this couple shooting. They were naturals in front of the camera and have such a great friendship and chemistry!

We are really looking forward to their wedding as well as a Bridal shoot with NaKisha. I have no doubt that this wedding will be fabulous down to every little detail!

NaKisha and Miles have a special story so we hope you enjoy…

How did you meet?
NaKisha: I met Miles at Verizon Wireless in my hometown of Fort Payne, AL, where he has been working for over two years now. I had recently moved back into Fort Payne post-graduation from college and was looking to upgrade into a Blackberry. One night I casually wandered into Verizon to look at phones, ended up setting the alarm off on one of the displays, and Miles was the one who came over to turn the alarm off and talk with me. From first glance, I knew he was flirting with me because he made some sarcastic comment about how I was trying to steal a phone plus he made for sure that I had several copies of his business card “just in case I had questions later.” To make a long story short, when I bought my phone a week or so later, I did run into problems. A simple phone call to “that Verizon guy” to figure out how to use my new phone ended up leading to our first date. Our first date led to more and more dates, an unshakable friendship, trust that I had never known before in anyone, and eventually to true love. It’s amazing how such a casual, every-day experience can lead you to your soulmate, but I am living proof that you can meet that person at anytime-  in my case, when I least expected it!

Miles:  NaKisha summed it all up pretty well. I saw her right when she came into the store and knew that I was going to talk to her before the alarm ever went off. I had already made a comment to my coworker that I would take care of helping her. There was just something about her that caught my eye. Little did I know at that time, she would be my future wife!

Anything special you’d like to share about dating?
Dating took on a whole new meaning when I started dating Miles. Miles had been previously married and I had been in countless relationships that were not healthy for me, so I think that our trust levels were at an all-time low when we met. I think this turned out to be a huge blessing though because the first 5 months of knowing each other we spent talking about our pasts, our struggles, our dreams, and our goals. We became each other’s confidant and were just happy being together no matter what we were doing. Dating no longer means getting dressed up and going out somewhere expensive. Dating means spending time with the one you love and being content just doing nothing together. We will be getting married on our two year anniversary, and I cannot wait to spend forever with him.

Describe your proposal.
I could go on and on about the way Miles proposed. We had been discussing getting engaged for a long time, and he had heard me make comments about other couples we knew and how they had gotten engaged. So he pieced together the perfect proposal that completely captured my personality in every way. I went on a scavenger hunt, which consisted of multiples stops. At each stop, I was greeted by some of my closest friends and read a letter written by them about a certain aspect of importance within a relationship. The first stop was about faithfulness, then on to trust, loyalty, and patience. At the end, Miles and I had our moment down by the riverfront in downtown Chattanooga behind the Tennessee Aquarium. It was an absolute gorgeous day, followed by a party with all of our closest friends and family at Big River Grille downtown. I will never forget how happy I felt when he asked if I would marry him…it was probably the most romantic moment I could ever imagine. I was shaking, but I could hardly wait to answer yes to the question I knew was about to come. It was by far the best day of my life. To know that someone wants to spend the rest of their life by your side is a truly amazing feeling. To know that you’re never going to have to approach life alone again and that from now on, you’re going to be a part of a team with someone else, is a feeling that is hard to even describe with words. I am so excited to wake up every morning knowing that I am loved beyond what can be measured by such an amazing man.

What is your ring like?
My ring is absolutely perfect for me and exactly what I had wanted. We looked at many different rings, and I narrowed my choices down to my top three favorites. I had every intention of Miles picking from there, but he made me tell him which one was my favorite. My engagement ring was the one that made my heart flutter and the one I kept coming back to in hopes that it would be mine one day. When he proposed, I was blown away that he actually had went and bought the one I had loved beyond all the rest. It’s a platinum custom-made halo mounting with a round center stone. What I love most about it is that it is completely unique and nobody has one identical to it. My wedding band is being customized to fit snuggly around the half circle basket of the mounting. He definitely has been told over and over what an amazing job he did in picking it out, and I couldn’t agree more.

How would you describe the way you feel about each other?
NaKisha: Miles is truly my best friend, first and foremost. I am a firm believer that a relationship needs to be built upon a strong foundation in order to stand. We have a built a friendship closer than I ever thought possible, and even before we started dating exclusively on April 30, 2009, we both knew each other unlike anyone else did. I had no doubts about his character, values, or morals. Everything had been addressed, and I knew without any doubt in my mind that this man would be an amazing husband. Over the past year and a half, the trust, love, and admiration I had back then and that I thought couldn’t be exceeded has only grown stronger and deeper. I feel so lucky and undeserving of such an amazing person, but I am truly living my very own fairy tale. I feel like God created me for Him and that our purpose in life in one that He has orchestrated to be intertwined from the beginning. Never before have I felt so sure of anything. So many nights I prayed that one day I would find him, and now that I have, I will never let go!

Miles: NaKisha has been a Godsend to me. She has changed my life in ways I have never dreamed possible. Before she walked into my life I was a person who never imagined love ever being possible and swore to keep myself out of any situation that could ever cause me to start feeling it. When we became friends I could not help but to love her. She is my strength. She is the sunshine that lights my days and makes even the worst things in life seem better. I have fallen in love with my best friend, my soul mate, and the most amazing woman on the face of the planet. It is so wonderful to wake up and know that God has placed someone as special as her on this earth just for you. NaKisha is the type of person that thinks of others first, who will do anything to help you, and will listen even when she really doesn’t have to. She is a woman of God, and God has made her into the perfect person for me. Words just are not enough to explain what she is and how much she means to me. I love her with all my heart and could never imagine a day without her in my life.

Do you have any special plans for your wedding that you’d like to share?
I am very excited about our wedding. It is going to be really unique and different. I don’t want it to be like any other person’s I’ve ever been to or seen. Miles, being the typical guy, didn’t really play too much of role in choosing colors or anything like that, so the whole wedding theme fits my personality to a tee. Our colors are mocha, champagne, and gold with bright flowers that “pop” against the color scheme. We have an unusually large wedding party, 14 on each side, which is a detail that is crazy in itself, but at the same time, we are extremely excited to be able to look back on our wedding pictures and be able to see everyone who had meant something to our relationship and to us as individuals over the years. I know myself that it’s cool to be having people I’ve grown up with since elementary school and my college sorority sisters in the same place at one time. I have to keep reminding myself– This is a once-in-a-lifetime day so don’t get too bogged down with traditions and what other people say you have to do. This is the one day it can be all about me and Miles and I don’t have to feel selfish. I’m a free spirit, and I’ve approached my wedding no differently. I can’t wait to see the final picture on the big day!
